NEW Alumni Global Outreach Opportunities for Summer 2020 to Spring 2021 Now Available


We are excited to open our Summer 2020-Spring 2021 applications for the following Global Outreach experiences. Alumni are encouraged to apply for any experience listed below!

1) RAM- Emporia (June 26-28, 2020):  Alumni selected for the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Team will spend a long weekend in Emporia, Va.  Emporia is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, surrounded by Greensville County, It is approximately 59.35 miles from Richmond, Virginia. Alumni will have an opportunity to provide health care to this population and explore the paper mill and plastics manufacturing culture of the second-least populous city in Virginia. All participants will also attend a church service, visit local areas, and socialize with the people of the community. Alumni are expected to travel to and from Emporia as a team and stay as a team while in Emporia. The fee for this trip is $250.

2) Move Mountains Medical Mission - Health Wagon - Wise County (JULY 9-12, 2020):  Alumni selected for this team will spend a long weekend in Wise, Virginia. Team members will have an opportunity to provide health care at one of area's largest events held throughout the year.  Students, alumni, and faculty will work alongside hundreds of volunteers to provide medical and dental assistance to the people of Southwest Virginia. This was previously operated by Remote Area Medical and has now been turned over to their partners at Health Wagon. Alumni are expected to travel to and from Wise as a team and stay as a team while in Wise. The fee for this trip is $250.

3)Tangier Island- (Tentative Dates: May 30 - June 2 2020): Team members will have the opportunity to spend time with local residents during their 2 days on the island exploring social determinants of health and the evolution of healthcare on Tangier. Members will attend Wednesday evening church service, participate in Tuesday clinic hours, and visit with the watermen to learn about daily life in the fishing industry. Alumni are expected to travel to and from Tangier as a team and stay as a team while in Tangier. The fee for this trip is $250.

4) RAM- Grundy (October Trip, specific dates not yet announced):  Alumni selected for the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Team will spend a long weekend (1st weekend in October) in Grundy, Virginia. This area is in Buchanan County in southwest Virginia approximately 6 hours from Richmond, Virginia. Team members will have an opportunity to provide health care to this population and explore the culture of the Appalachian region by attending a church service, visiting local areas, and socializing with the people of the community. Alumni are expected to travel to and from Grundy as a team and stay as a team while in Grundy. The fee for this trip is $250.

5) RAM- Warsaw (November Trip - typically 1st weekend):  Alumni selected for the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Team will spend a long weekend in Warsaw, Va.  Team members will travel from Richmond on Friday morning to Warsaw. They will have the opportunity to explore Warsaw and interact with members of the community over dinner that evening. Team members will spend Saturday at the clinic and end their trip with Sunday services at the local church. Alumni are expected to travel to and from Warsaw as a team and stay as a team while in Warsaw. The fee for this trip is $250.

6) Spring Break International Service Opportunity:  Alumni selected for this team typically serve in Haiti or in other countries with a Haitian population. The College has partnered with community leaders in Haiti, Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas to serve the vulnerable population of those areas. The exact travel location will be selected in the Fall semester preceding the trip. Team members will have the opportunity to set up clinics in rural villages serving the healthcare needs of this population. In addition, team members will be immersed in the culture by attending church services, visiting local landmarks, and socializing with those living in the local communities. The fee for this trip is $1,700.
