SCHS offers three associate degree programs including the Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing, the Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology. The oldest SCHS program, nursing training, began in the late 1800’s in Petersburg and expanded during World War II. As radiation technology developed in the 1940’s in response to tuberculosis, the Radiologic Technology program began in the 1950’s. The most recent addition was the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program in 2008. All three programs prepare graduates to take examinations for licensure in their field of study. Graduates find employment in hospitals, physician offices, mobile services and private clinics. SCHS is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and certified by The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
