On Friday, January 27, 2023, the College of Nursing held its annual Global Outreach Silent Auction. Due to the pandemic, this was the first time the auction was held since 2020. All proceeds from the auction help students with the costs associated with international, national or local mission-driven service. With hundreds of items up for auction, festive food and beverages, door prizes and more, the Global Outreach event was a success! Items donated for the auction included handmade objects, donated goods and services, and unique pieces for bid. Thank you to all who participated and provided their support.

Global Outreach is a mission-based program that strives to bring together students who are passionate about serving people and communities around the world. Global Outreach answers a student’s “call to serve.” It started more than 20 years ago as a single mission trip to Haiti and has grown into a program bringing the mission of our institution to the forefront: cultivating servant leaders who are passionate about helping people and communities achieve health and wholeness.

Global Outreach has partnerships with Virginia Remote Area Medical (RAM), a nonprofit provider of free pop-up clinics for community members. These include Mountain Mission School, which serves as home, church and school to more than 200 children in need from Appalachia and across the world as well as Move Mountains Medical Mission - Health Wagon, a pop-up clinic in Wise, Va. Tangier Island, Va., Alternative Spring Break with Richmond-area nonprofit organizations and a unique study abroad mission trip to Paris to retrace the steps of The Sisters of Bon Secours all provide additional opportunities for student volunteers.
